Wholesale HDU signs are a rather popular product in today’s sign industry, HDU can be used for a different array of projects and provides a strong and durable sign for your customers. HDU stands for high-density urethane and as the name suggests it is a rigid high density polyurethane foam, specifically created for 3D routed signs, dimensional letters and prototypes in general.
Due to its extremely tight cell structure, HDU sheets are easy to finish, carve and machine routed. Its solvents and moisture make HDU an ideal replacement for wood and other materials that might not resist as well to weather conditions.

Main Applications of HDU Signs
HDU signs can be used for interior and exterior signs, however, it is mainly used for outdoor applications as it is durable and weather resistant. Here are some of its main use:
– Monument sign panel
– Hanging Signs
– Wayfindign Signs
– Building Signs

Sign Specifications
HDU sheets are available in a wide range of sheet sizes, thicknesses and densities, further we are able to cut, carve or bond into a large variety of shapes for final CNC Routing or Sandblasting. Here is a breakdown of the different HDU sheet sizes and options:
– Density: HDU density refers to the weight by pounds-per-cubic foot. To illustrate this measurement a 12”x12”x12” cube of 15lbs will weight exactly 15lbs. HDU density options go from 4 to 31 lbs/ft3 , however as your wholesale sign manufacturer we recommended 15 and 20lbs for signs. From a ROI perspective, 15lbs is the most popular option.
– Sizes: the most common HDU sheet size is 4’x8’, with additional options of 4’x10’ and 5’x10’.
– Thickness: HDU sheet thickness vary from ¾” to 2”.
When considering the best options for your HDU Sign, the final application will dictate what would be the best option. For example, if you are designing a 9’x3’ double-sided panel which is v-carved in both sides, we should definitely go with a 4’x10’ 2” thick HDU sheet. It will be important have a thick substrate for such a long sign.
On the other hand, if you are doing a series of smaller, single-sided HDU signs that will have a simple number engraved and will be wall-mounted, a ¾” or 1” thick could do the job. Those considerations are important because they will directly impact the longevity and budget of your HDU sign.
This are just a few basic aspects to be considered when you want to design and deliver a great HDU Sign for your client. A great advantage to work with a wholesale sign company, like Elite Letters & Logos, is all the knowledge and resources we are able to share with our clients, ensuring every single sign project is a success
